Using the Blog demo, I’m trying to make the image in a “Gallery” blog post clickable so that when someone clicks on it, it opens the blog post. (right now the only link to open the blog post is the title of the post). Attached is an example.

Thank you for your question.
I can see you are using older version 2.1.1 of theme on your site, please use latest version 2.2.2 of theme from the following page
http://support.shufflehound.com/download/jevelin-beta/
Then please make sure to set blog Post Overlay style to Style 3 as shown in the attached screenshot.

I updated the theme through envato market plugin. I have set the overlay to style 3 and I do not detect any change in the way blog posts are handled. I also made a new blog post to see if that would change things, it did not. I also logged out and tried under a different user name. I also tested style 2 with no difference. It is currently set to style 3.
Please advise.

It seems this is not working on your shared site because you have set your blog post format to Gallery instead set it to Standard as shown in the attached screenshot.
I don’t know who you are, but you rock. Sorry for wasting your time for something seemingly so simple.
