What would be an appropriate way to embed a Vimeo video on a page so that 1/2 of a section is header and text box while other half is embedded video?

It depend on how much text you will have in 1/2 column and if the section will be full width or not?

Section is standard width. Left column 1/2 with heading h2, heading h1, text block with a couple paragraphs (flexible in length on content).
Which layout would you prefer? Also can video background be cropped?

Option 2 is preferable. Video background should not be cropped. 16:9 aspect ratio on video.
OK. Figured it out! Added Video Player content element to column and set width to 100% instead of using px.
