Blog posts have alot of room on the sides. How do I control this?
And is there a way to customize the blog page (no side widgets, centered text, etc)?

To control it, you can use Yellow Pencil editor plugin as described in the below page.

You can just set Blog page layout to Full width and to center align text use Yellow Pencil editor.
