I have a photo that is banner size (1152×142).
When this image sizes down responsively, it becomes too small and difficult to see on mobile devices.
Is there a way to load a different image to replace the banner sized image? I have a square image that would look much better on mobile.

There isn’t any theme option to do this but we can achieve this developing custom CSS code.
Could you please share me the page URL from your site where it is displaying and also share me the square image URL so that i can help you to achieve it?

You can achieve it by adding the following CSS code in the Custom CSS code option of your theme on the below path.
Admin Area -> Appearance -> Theme Settings -> Custom Code -> CSS Code
