I’m using the portfolio item type that has text to describe the item (https://biblioteca.dde.pr/project/revista-del-icp/). The search functionality only works when I search a string that appears on the title of the portfolio item. When I try searching a string that is part of the description of the portfolio item it won’t work.

Are you using any search plugin to search projects?
If not then you can try using Ivory Search plugin to achieve it.
