are there other ways to make the google maps more appealing on my website? Like darker mode or something else?

You can use Snazzy maps and add its styling code in the Google map element setting as shown in the attached screenshot.

yes but that to work i see: Google Maps requires API Key to work correctly. Therefore please create an application in Google Console and add key under “Appearance > Theme Settings > General > API Key”. -> when i press on the element you showed on the screenshot.
Without that i cant put my location there. And I also read that API key cost money to set it up, is that correct?
