I’m using the counter element on a site that I’m building. However, the numbers I’m counting up with are prices. Is there no availability to add a dollar sign prefix? Ideally a comma also for numbers over 1,000 too.

No, currently there isn’t any option for it so you have to achieve this developing custom code.
