    Hi,

We’re noticing that some of the featured images on our blog entries look stretched. Are there specific dimensions that display better than others here? It seems that the rectangular images look good, but the square ones or taller-than-wide images stretch.

    Stretched:

    Looks good:

It would be helpful to know what the optimal dimensions are so we can pick the right images to feature with the entries.

    Thank you!

    Hi Kristy,

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

The optimal sizes are minimum 1200px X 675px.

After using the desired image size, please make sure that you have regenerated the thumbnails on your site using the below plugin.

    Best regards,

    Hi,

Thank you for the quick response! I have reservations about using this plugin though, it says it hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. Won’t the thumbnail on the home page automatically size itself?

    Thank you!

The plugin developer has not updated the plugin but we have confirmed that the plugin is working fine.

All the new images gets resized automatically but not old images so you have to resize them using the plugin only once then you can deactivate the plugin.

    Hi,

Thank you for the reply. Does this mean that we cannot upload images that are a vertical rectangle or square as Featured Images? If not, is there a workaround to optimize them to display properly?

    Thank you!

    -Kristy

You can change this default featured image size by using custom plugin solution shared in the below topic.
