Hello.
The instructions to update the theme were clear. I followed the steps, and did get the page where it says:
Unpacking the package…
Installing the theme…
Theme installed successfully.
When I click on the Activate button, I get a “<b>Fatal error</b>: Call to undefined function is_plugin_active() in <b>/home/stevenku/public_html/dev/wp-content/themes/jevelin/inc/helpers.php</b> on line <b>1952” </b>error. Once this error presented itself, I couldn’t access my site or Admin anymore. Please see attached file.

I created a new Install of my current working Jevelin theme site, before I tired to update the Theme, so maybe you can log into this Admin and try updating the theme? The link and access to this site are in the “Private information field” area.
Can someone please tell me why. I contacted siteground.com and they said this was a case where I would need to contact the developer of the theme.
Can someone please help me.

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.
I logged into your shared site and updated the theme without any issue by deleting and reinstalling the latest version of theme.
Could you please check it?
I saw you are using outdated version of PHP on your site as displayed in the attached screenshot so please update it to the latest version by contacting your web host.
