If we are interested in creating a custom category template page for one category on our site, do we edit the category.php page or is it now the archive.php page?
We see in the forum here it used to be to copy the index.php file and create a category.php file in the child theme folder but now see a recent post about potentially using an “archive.php” page in the child theme. Could you guide me on what is correct for the latest version of Gillion?
Thanks!
I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.
You should use archive.php template file.

Thank you! I know you cannot assist with custom development but just to confirm we do it right to create a unique category template page, should we copy “archive.php” to the child theme folder and then also place in the child theme folder the “category.php” file there? Or should we leave “archive.php” in the main theme folder and only place the updated “category.php” file in the child theme folder?
You should only place the updated “category.php” file in the child theme folder.
