Then the option “Square” is a bit misleading, because one would expect to get square photos, independently from their original size… But how is it possible that the “Portrait” mode can do equal heights (independently from the images’ original size) and the “Square” can’t? Can’t the script be fixed so that it crops all images to a square no matter what when you select the “Square” option?

I don’t know if the problem was solved only because I resaved the permalinks, but now I don’t get the error message anymore. However, a new issue has come up…
So when I’m selecting the header style in Appearance>Customize>Header, the selected custom header doesn’t show up neither in the preview (see screenshot) nor on the site after publishing. In the attached example the link of the header called “Another Test Header” is:
