I cannot get visual composer to update.

If you have not purchased this plugin and using the plugin bundled with the theme then you are not direct customer of that plugin so can not update that plugin until it is updated in the theme.

We will update the plugin bundled with the theme in the next theme version.

I also don’t have the clean theme as a demo version but would like to use

that option.

I am not sure what you meant by clean theme and what you are trying to achieve so could you please describe it a bit more in detail so that i can help you?
