Hi there, I would like to change some pages content directly in the wordpress database (wp_posts table, post_content column)

I do so because it is easier to have some search & replace operations done in sourcecode of the page instead of doing those one by one in wp-admin backend editor.

My issue is: changes I make in database, do not affect frontend at all. Content stays the same like before.  Server Cache is cleared via my hosting, Browsercache is cleared as well… so things get stuck somewhere, where template and wordpress comes together…

Is this normal behaviour? Is this meant to be like this? Is there a tweak to change the theme/editor to behave different? I do not really understand where the content is stored. I was thinking it’s always grabbed from database…

BTW: when I save the specific page again, my changes in database are overwritten… it seems to be a oneway connection from wp-admin to database and not vice versa.

    thanks for hints and advices

    Christian

    Hi Christian,

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

The content is always stored in the database.

This may because you are changing the wrong content in the database or your web server is caching it so please contact your web hosting provider to resolve it.

    Best regards,

mhh of course in the first place I tried to solve this issue with my hosting provider. And after investigation on their end they came up with the conclusion that the theme is involved in this issue.

you are sure that this really can’t be the case?

    we already addressed your ideas:

server cache has been cleared several times
    and
wrong table is hardly possible, because I actual can see the content (sourcecode) in the database and thus know that this is the right one and after I updated the page in wordpress wp-admin backend once again the content in database has been the “old” one as well, so I am definitely at the right table and column

I just don’t understand why changed content in database is not affecting the wordpress instance at all… neither in wp-admin backend because when I edit the content it’s still the “old” one not the one in the database and same for the frontend when actually browsing the page “old” content as well. after clearing all the caches around (browser, server)…

so you have no hint at all? template really can’t be part of the problem?

To confirm whether it is a theme issue, just temporarily use the Twenty Twenty theme on your site. If everything works fine then it’s the theme issue.

I like the idea of switching themes, but I can not copy that it helped.

going to something like twentytwenty theme is not producing any meaningful output in the end. The jevelin theme is working with pagebuilders and shortcodes all over the place… twentytwenty just makes some weird gibberish out of this site…

neither in pageeditor (backend) nor in fronend (viewing the page) I can find any meaningful code to proof whether my changes (url of links with another domain) is in place or not… it’s just not there anymore at all 😉

but thanks so far! other ideas or still thinking it can’t be the theme?

is the unyson pagebuilder involved somehow? Do you have a clue?

I am not sure you understood what I am telling you to test.

Just ignore page builders and all the stuff for a while.

Create a simple page and add text content to it and try to change it from the database using both the themes Jevelin & Twenty Twenty and see whether the changes get reflected.
