In our use cases, it has added many benefits, that outweigh the performance concerns. But you can also test similar other SEO plugins, which also might add this functionality with less of a performance hit.

It seems that the theme settings plugin wasn’t active. So after activating the Redux framework plugin theme settings should work just fine.
