Yes you can but just make sure to also change their slugs.
Now that I have the rather large demo installed, what’s the best way to clear that content and make it ready for my content but keep the cool design that the demo gave it?

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having but this is not a theme bug.
It seems some user is creating the posts which is either by hacking your site or by malware so please fix it by referring the solutions shared in the following pages.

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.
I can see you are using header 1 layout on your shared site so to achieve this you have to overwrite theme file /gillion/inc/headers/header-1.php in the Gillion child theme and add the link on line number 67 of it.

You can remove it by adding the following CSS code in the Custom CSS code option of your theme on the below path.
Admin Area -> Appearance -> Theme Settings -> Custom Code -> CSS Code

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.
It seems from your shared screenshot that you are getting an error because of the polylang plugin you are using on your site so please try deactivating the plugin.
