You are trying to upgrade it from the wrong location.
As described above, please make sure that you are using the latest version of the Gillion theme and upgrade the WPBakery page builder plugin from the below path.
Admin Area -> Appearance -> Install Plugins
The theme is absolutely safe that doesn’t cause any critical error and currently is being use don thousands of websites.
This can be due to plugin conflict on your site so please try temporarily deactivating all plugins except Unyson, Redux framework and WpBakery page builder plugins and see whether everything works fine and then enable the plugins one by one to see which plugin is conflicting if any.
Could you please share your site URL where it’s happening so that I can troubleshoot it?
The WpBakery page builder plugin comes bundled with the theme that you can install freely from the below path.

It seems your website a specific issue so need to troubleshoot it on your website.
